Ski Racing – Competitive

The Squaw Valley Academy and Squaw Valley Ski Team strive to impact and better the lives of student-athletes by giving these young athletes skills for a driven, educated future. We educate students with the knowledge to be successful, empower them to create stronger performance, and engage student-athletes to inspire them to be self-motivated on and off the hill. The Squaw Valley Academy and Squaw Valley Ski Team understands that each athlete is an individual with their own genetics unique to themselves. Athletes establish the full range of motion for safety, mobility, joint stability, and muscular development. We aim to correct and address all imbalances before problems occur. Motor unit recruitment, central nervous system stimulus, and muscular fatigue are taken into account for training programming. The Squaw Valley Ski Team works very hard to reduce the risk of injury and the severity of potential injuries while maximizing skill development and performance. Through our creed – We will train hard, train smart, and train together.

Additional Info: Squaw Valley Academy is an international 9-12 California boarding school offering a combination of strong learning, supervised study, 100% college preparation, bay area adventures in Northern California. We enroll students who need the structure of small classes, focused study halls, and daily activities. The individual needs of each student remain an integral part of Squaw Valley Academy. Our staff and faculty believe self-esteem is enhanced through real accomplishment in the academic, athletic, and social aspects of life at a boarding school.

Competition Ski Program

Squaw Valley Academy has partnered with Squaw Valley Ski Resort and the Squaw Valley Ski Team to offer a program tailored for student-athletes training and competing at a higher level. We have created a flexible schedule to integrate the rigorous demands of a skier’s preparation and race schedule with college-preparatory academics.

Addressing the individual needs of each student is an integral part of our academic program at Squaw Valley Academy. With a focus on preparation for college, we offer small class sizes and proctored evening study halls to help students develop skills necessary for academic success. SVA maintains a 100% college acceptance rate, with students working individually with a college counselor to find schools that best meet their needs.

To help integrate our student-athletes into the larger school community, their fall semester schedule will closely mirror that of our non-athletes, attending five classes in the morning, with the daily performance program and equipment preparation taking the place of afternoon activities. During the spring semester, skiers will attend four classes in the morning, followed by afternoon training.

On the Road

While traveling for competition, students will keep on top of their academic commitments with the help from designated travel tutors, personal MacBook Airs with eBooks, digitized assignments and monitored study halls.

Get ahead! Our Interim and Summer School sessions are terrific options for students who want to earn credits in advance or need to re-mediate grades. Plus, the dates allow skiers to still attend Squaw Valley Ski Team’s on-snow training camp in New Zealand.

Student Life

Beyond the classroom, Squaw Valley Academy focuses on the whole child, including community involvement and social development. We take week-long excursion trips each semester to further the outdoor learning experience. Using the Sierra Nevadas as our backdrop, we offer many outdoor sports and activities as a catalyst for personal growth and achievement. From paddleboarding on Lake Tahoe to hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, SVA is truly a place where the mountain meets the classroom.
